Understand that insurance premiums DO NOT vary based on how one applies, so it is always a good idea to use an agent to attain coverage, to find the absolute best carrier and product for your needs and budget, as well as assistance if any problems ever arise.  Insurance can be complicated and with
several options to choose from when structuring plans.  As an agency, we work with only top-rated carriers and help match you to the absolute best plans available based on your needs, budget, and benefits desired.

Individual Medical Plans - tips and examples
With the cost of healthcare still on the rise, it is often beneficial to package major medical plans along with supplements.  This is a creative way of providing complete protection in addition to saving money and minimizing risk exposure.  See the example below:

Example
Say a $1000 deductible plan costs $500/month.  Co-Insurance is 80/20 to $1000, leaving risk exposure at $2000, plus any co-pays that would be paid out.

Take the same policy and change the deductible to $10,000, and the premium is lowered to $200/month.  However, put an Accident Plan in place for $60/month that would cover the deductible in the event of an accident. In addition, put a Critical Illness plan in place with a $10,000 benefit, for another $60.  Now the deductible is completely covered in the event of an accident, or major health issue.  Risk exposure is now minimized, and monthly cost is lowered to $320/month.
* There are a few great options for Accident and Critical Illness plans on the Quote / Apply page as well.

* NOTE:  Realize only about 10% of people with major medical plans hit their deductible in a given year.  In the above example, exposure is minimized and money is saved.  It is a much more cost-effective solution.  Go to Quote/Apply to shop and compare.

Group Health Insurance - Tips (for Employers):
Group policies can be beneficial and do provide better coverage (including maternity), but they are typically more costly and require more administration to maintain as an employer.  Requirements for group plans are that at least 75% of your full-time employees participate in the plan, and that the employer pay a minimum of 50% of the employee’s cost.  Often times, small business may not be able to afford a group plan or may not get the group participation, but want to provide something in terms of health benefits.  In this instance, it may be more beneficial to establish individual policies.  The employer can designate an amount to be paid to the employee (pre-tax) through an HRA (Health Reimbursement Account) to help pay for their coverage.  This way the employee can choose and administer his/her own plan.  It also allows them to take the plan with them if they leave the company.
